Budweiser Original Gluten Test

More than two years ago I tested Budweiser – well, the American Budweiser. It was about time to test the ‘real’ Budweiser from Czech Republic. Here you go.

Beer: Budweiser Original
Producer: Budějovický Budvar n.p.
Originating country: Czech Republic
Brewing location: Czech Republic
Bottle size: 0.5 l = approx. 16 Oz.
Alcohol by volume: 5.0%
Ingredients: water, barley malt, hops
Miscellaneous:

Test Kit: GlutenTox Home Kit

I tested with a threshold of 5 ppm. The limit of detection depends on the number of drops taken from the extraction solution, please find some more information here.

Test result: There is no indication of the presence of gluten above 5 ppm. According to the instructions there should appear a clearly visible red test line on the right of the test area ( T ) to indicate the presence of gluten. The blue line on the left test area ( C ) is a control line and indicates that the extract/sample is suitable, the test has been performed correctly and all reagents are active. Please don’t take any of my test results as a medical advice – see my facts page.

Thanks so much for testing this one Steffen. I’ve been hoping you would.
I’m just about to go out and buy some now.
    Awesome!

  2. Hi Adam, thanks for re test. I drink the Bud when overseas, had no problems with it, quite like the taste too as I prefer a sweeter beer.

Will be doing a cruise from LA to Panama Canal in Nov/Dec, can taste the icy cold Budweisers in the 16 oz aluminium bottle right now.

Regards to all on here, great site, great benefactor is our Adam. Danke.

    • Sorry Steffen re my previous comment, it is thank you Steffen for his testing, well thanks to Adam from SA too for his comment ! I must have had too many Buds !!

No worries Les, thanks for being a loyal visitor of my website as well.

I will travel to Detroit in May. Any suggestions what I could test there? I already tested so many American beers (from Bud to craft beers). May be I will find a good local beer which I could test.

        Cheers Steffen

    Hello Steffen

If I could put my two cents in about what to test when you’re in the USA next month.

In my local bottle shop the other day I saw two more Brooklyn Brewery beers – “Brooklyn Brown Ale” (5.6%) and “Brooklyn East IPA” (6.9%). I’m absolutely in love with the Brooklyn Lager you tested sometime back. I even bought a box of it yesterday even though it was super expensive (AU$90!).

Otherwise I’ve heard Widmer Brothers Hefeweizen is really good and there’s always Miller Genuine Draft.

Keep up the good work Steffen.

P.S. Les I was a bit confused about your other post there. Have you tried the Czech budweiser, Budvar yet?

…or maybe you could retest Pabst Blue Ribbon?
The previous test results were borderline?
      ?

Good idea, I tested PBR with the Imutest kit back in 2014 and could re-test using the kit from Biomedal.

    • Hi Adam, I got you mixed up with Steffen ! Apologies. Not tried Budvar, that was the original Bud? What is the gluten content?

      • Adam from Adelaide, Australia

Les, this is the Budvar, also known as the original budweiser, and also called Budějovický Budvar.
But my preferred Czech beer is Pilsner Urquell.

Hi All, Is the USA Budweiser that is made under licence in Australia under 20ppm of gluten? I keep finding conflicting information on this. Some say Budweiser made in USA is under 20ppm bit I cant find anything about stuff made under license.

Thanks very much for this! I had one of these beers yesterday, it was delicious
