Budweiser Gluten Test

Budweiser is probably the most famous American beer. When beer appears in American movies or TV series it’s a Budweiser. Probably to show average American behaviour as this beer also tastes very average. The name Budweiser is derived from the German name of the Czech city of Budejovice (Budweis) and so it’s a Budweiser. Thank god it’s not coming from Hamburg 🙂

It tastes watery and sweet but it is actually not that bad. Still it can not be compared with the Original Czech Budweiser which has the same alcohol but tastes very different to the American Budweiser. And this is the gluten test result for this famous beer:

Beer: Budweiser
Producer: Anheuser-Busch
Originating country: USA
Brewing location: USA
Bottle size: 16 oz (approx. 470 ml)
Alcohol by volume: 5.0%
Ingredients: water, barley malt, hops, yeast, rice
Miscellaneous: Ingredients listed in German as product sold in Germany

Sorry for the poor picture quality but I did not have enough light.

Test Kit: GlutenTox Home Kit

I tested with a threshold of 5 ppm. The limit of detection depends on the number of drops taken from the extraction solution, please find some more information here.

Test result: The test is negative. In this test Budweiser has less than 5 ppm gluten (or even no gluten). However, it is not a medical advice – please see my facts page.

Can you tell me the ppm of GLUTEN in Bud 5 Select?

Hi Debilee, thanks for pointing to new beers. According to my internet research there is Bud Select and Bud Select 55 available. Neither I have tested yet so I can’t tell you how much gluten they contain. Cheers Steffen

I had a Budweiser in the aluminium bottle recently overseas, no ill effects, quite drinkable.

I have been partaking of the odd Budweiser, once or twice a week. It is now made under licence in Australia by Carlton United breweries in Melbourne, in 330 ml bottles, not the tall red aluminium bottles. I am sure it is made to the same receipe as the US Bud, as I have no bad reaction after one or two. It is the drink I have when overseas.

I like the taste, but wish there was a better head on pouring.

Hi Les, thanks for letting us know. I am currently in the US and stay with Bud and Bud Light. No reactions. Agree with the head but Lagers always lose to Pilsner when it comes to the head. Cheers Steffen

Did you ever test the Budweiser copper lager (Jim Beam barrels)…? I love it and it seams to be very low in gluten….

Hi Christine, unfortunately not. Really nice bottle and probably very tasty but I have no information about gluten content. Cheers Steffen
